A Runner’s Anchor

Ezra Lion

I have never been content to stay,

restlessness is a second skin

and my mind runs with the rapids

there is something in my bones,

clawing its way to the surface,

an ocean in unfathomable jaws

a part of me has always known

that the water will pull me under

and this beast will eat me alive

I am a runner, a great albatross,

face to face with the hurricane

afraid of this strange weight in my chest

but your hands are so warm in mine

and suddenly, I am just a man

foolishly grounded in your arms
