Stillwater’s fall campaign, Art Causes A Ripple, focuses on highlighting artists on the Ithaca College campus and exploring what drives them to create.

 

FEATURED ARTISTS


Abigail Monteagudo

Abigail Monteagudo ('24) is a singer and actor from the Philippines. She is passionate about the arts and won her high school’s singing competition Star Search in 2019. After graduating college magna cum laude with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies of Language and Literature, she set out to the U.S. to obtain a second degree. Monteagudo is currently pursuing a B.A. in musical theater at Ithaca College, and channels her love of storytelling into her performances on stage. She most recently appeared in the new play Incubator, and hopes to one day perform in productions on Broadway. 


Spelunking

Spelunking is a new and upcoming band currently made up of Eze Brown (‘26), Marshall Long (‘26), Bella Joyner (‘26), Lyle Setnik-King (‘26), and Arthur Wawrzyniak (‘26). As they describe it, their unique instrumentation — featuring a bass instead of a guitar, a tenor saxophone, and synth — produces what they like to call a “post-pre new wave hijinks friendship punk sound.”


Xinyi (Dona) Qin

Xinyi (Dona) Qin (‘25) is a photographer from Shanghai, China. Through her photography, she strives to portray the world around her in an intimate, authentic manner and to share stories that were previously untold. At Ithaca College, Dona is a Documentary Studies and Production major and an assistant photo editor and photojournalist for The Ithacan. She also worked on the set of the 2023 Coca-Cola Refreshing Films Project, taking pictures behind the scenes.


Oliver Canales-Greenwood

Oliver Canales-Greenwood (‘26) is a scenic designer, actor, and props creator who is a current Sophomore at Ithaca College. Born in Russia and having moved to the United States with his two parents, he has always been involved with the behind-the-scenes of theater. Theater has always been a passion of his and continues to be as he is studying theatrical production and design, with a primary focus in scenic design, a secondary focus in the design of scenic art, and a third focus in performance.


Max Detzer

Max Detzer (‘27) is a Violinist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and a 10-time state competitor for the WSMA (Wisconsin Solo Music Association) in solos, orchestral solos, and jazz trios. As well as the Exemplary award winner for WSMA. He is a current first year at Ithaca College in the symphonic orchestra and is very excited for the next four years of his musical future and career at IC.

Jimmy Mejia ('24) is a photographer/artist based in New York. His art is his way of self-expression, and he enjoys it because it allows him to connect with people. If he's not taking pictures, he spends a lot of his time producing the show "Homeschool'd" for ICTV. Jimmy likes to spend his free time with his guitar, skating, or being the free spirit that he is, doing something spontaneous. 


Dylan clark

Dylan Clark (‘23) is a young filmmaker from Virginia who focuses specifically on making short horror films for his YouTube channel, which has already amassed 34.3K subscribers.


nina singh

Nina Singh (’24) is a photographer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her photos have won multiple National Scholastic Art and Writing awards, and her work has appeared in the Cornell Chronicle. She works as a Marketing and Communications Assistant with Cornell’s Center for Regional Economic Advancement through an internship with its program Rev. At Ithaca College, she’s working towards a degree in Business Administration with a dual concentration in Marketing and Sport Marketing and a minor in Entrepreneurship.


ananya gambhiraopet

Ananya Gambhiraopet ('24) is an artist from Ithaca who has a love of drawing and painting. She was born in Hyderabad, India but had to relocate several times throughout her childhood. Among the countries she’s lived in are England, New Zealand, and Italy before moving to the United States the summer before starting high school. She is studying Communication Management and Design with a minor in Graphic Design. On campus, she's involved in Buzzsaw and IC Unbound, both extracurriculars she is very proud to be a part of.


ic tone cold

IC Tone Cold is the newest of five acapella groups on the Ithaca College campus. Founded in 2020 by a group of freshmen who are now seniors, this group blossomed during quarantine and has gone on to be a staple of cooperation and unity in the Ithaca College acapella community.


NIKO STYCOS

Nikeratos Stycos (‘23) is a New York based director, cinematographer, & video editor. In 2020 he founded his own cinema/photo company, Iconicapture. Under that name he has crafted content for high end pro-audio companies such as Dangerous Music, Manley Labs, Audio Alchemist, as well as editing music videos for recording artist/songwriter Gigi Grombacher. He also directed two short films, one of which is currently in post-production. During his time off, Niko has traveled to over 17 countries with his camera– hiking, backpacking, and climbing through deserts and up nineteen thousand foot active volcanoes.


IRena rosenberg

Irena Rosenberg ('23) is a dancer from Ithaca, who is grateful to have found a community in the dance companies she's a part of. She's studying to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy and one day hopes to practice in Cambodia, the country she was adopted from. She studied abroad in South Korea and knows how to play the violin and drums.


EMMA GREGORY

Emma Gregory (’23) is an artist with an associate degree in fine art. At Ithaca College, she’s continuing her studies with a minor in French, and she works as an art monitor in the Cerrache Center. Her favorite medium is oil paint, and she’s currently working on a senior thesis inspired by her time as a summer intern at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica, NY. 


alex neuhedel

From the moment Alex Neuhedel (‘25) could first hold a pen, he’s been committed to filling blank spaces with his artwork. Though he plans on pursuing a career in graphic design, Alex is a versatile artist whose talent is reflected in various styles of work. Beyond the canvas, Alex likes to express himself on the stage. He has recently appeared as Ryan in the Ithaca College Theatre Lab’s production of High School Musical.


Lily watras

Lily Watras ('23) is an independent singer and songwriter, who mixes and produces her own music. She's majoring in vocal performance with an outside field in audio production, and in the future, she hopes to start a band with other IC students. She has an array of hobbies including crocheting, jewelry-making, painting, and dancing and is currently keeping 7 house plants alive in her dorm! Lily recently released her first song, "Skin to Clay," which deals with the physical feeling of heartbreak and processing that experience. She comes from a family of musicians and has fond memories of playing songs with her dad and cousins.  


Scout Frost

Scout Frost (‘24) is an artist from Syracuse, NY, with a passion for creating art through various mediums. They are a writing major with an art minor. Art has always been something ingrained into Scout’s life and they have been creating, one way or another, for as long as they can remember. Currently, their favorite mediums are oil paint and acrylic wash.


Kelly proctor

Kelly Proctor (‘22) grew up finger painting and drawing cats in her childhood home just fifteen minutes outside of Ithaca. She studies writing here at Ithaca College, and is the Student Operations Assistant to the Writing Department. When Kelly is not writing or painting, she is doing what she loves the most: assisting with wildlife rehabilitation. Animals are vital to her life, as portrayed in her paintings.


Greta Unetich

Greta Unetich (’23) is a writer with two self-published poetry books, Look Both Ways and Polaris. She’s a biology major with a minor in chemistry, and she’s planning on staying an extra year at IC to complete her master’s in education. On campus, she is a co-editor of the Prose and Cons section of Buzzsaw Magazine. She’s also a regular contributor for Living Zine and Kindergarten Mag. Along with her own poetry collections, her work has been published in numerous literary magazines in the U.S., Canada, and India. After graduation, she wants to be a high school chemistry and biology teacher and a hospital diabetes educator, and to continue writing in between it all.


Maya Lewis

Maya Lewis (‘21) is a photographer from Brooklyn, NY, with roots in Trinidad and Grenada. She is a photography major with a women and gender studies minor. Creating and storytelling are constant in Maya’s life, and she has a talent for capturing intimate and honest portraits. At IC, she has worked with Passion Project and Embrace. At Embrace, she captured the cover image for the very first issue, and she now serves as head of photography. Lorelei Horrell corresponded with Maya Lewis over email, discussing her interest in Black identities, as well as her creative process—and how she has adapted it in the isolation caused by the pandemic.


Quail

Quail is the eight-member band composed of Anna Young (‘22), Madison Carroll (‘22), Sam Laemmle (‘22), Ali DeRagon (‘22), David Florentin (‘22), Gabe Zall (‘22), Jacob Graham (‘21), and Dan Yapp (‘20) that makes music with a “grooving rhythm section, fiery horn section, power vocals, and boogie-worthy arrangements.”

They currently have almost 10k monthly listeners on Spotify, with over 250k streams on their debut single, “Blue Sky.” They hope to release a studio album in the near future, along with music videos for their songs “Crazy” and “Distance.” Olivia McKeon corresponded with Anna Young (bassist and songwriter) of Quail, through an email interview.


Aisle 5

Aisle 5 is made up of five members pursuing a range of majors at IC: Bea Tria (Music in combination with IMC), Matt Gerety (Film, Photo, and Visual Arts), Julian Sanita (Piano Performance), Alex Hunziker (Sociology), and Sierra Winter-Klepel (Sound Recording and Technology). 

They released their EP, My Dog’s Birthday, on February 14, 2020, which they call their “indie-pop-rap lovechild.” The single, “Blueshell”, currently has over 100k streams on Spotify, an incredible feat for a new band. Although they have received a lot of success for a new band, they would continue to make music even if people weren’t listening and they consider themselves friends before band members. 


KRISTEN HARRISON

Kristen Harrison (‘20) is a photo editor of The Ithacan and a former staff photographer for The Morning Call, the newspaper of Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley. Although a still photographer at heart, Kristen has previously worked as an assistant editor for the feature documentary, Her Earth, and at Insignia Films in New York City. Kristen sat down with Stillwater’s co-editor-in-chief, Tara Eng, to discuss the liberties and restraints of taking a fine arts approach to photojournalism.


Rafael López

Rafael López ('21) grew up going to art museums in Washington, D.C. with his grandparents, where his grandpa would stop and read every single word. Although he studies acting, he is also fascinated by writing, art history, photography, cinema, and education. He has appeared on the Ithaca College stage as Orsino in Twelfth Night and participated in various workshops, readings, and directing projects. Rafael joined Stillwater’s inaugural creative lab in correspondence with co-editors-in-chief, Jackson Short and Tara Eng, from London, England, where he is studying abroad and living his best gay life. 


ADAM DEE

Tucked away in his dorm or in the quiet study section of the library, Adam Dee (‘22) generates drawings that are fantastical in their exploration of distortion and interruption, and uncanny in their observation of human nature. Adam joins Stillwater’s Creative Lab in conversation with deputy editor Mae McDermott about the need for confrontation, examination of human psychology, and surreal expression of human truth.
